Starting Eve Online

I have been playing WoW alot since wotlk came out ( 2 chars to 80 now, 1 to go) and decided it was time for a bit of a break to refresh my WoW batteries (Not great timing as 3.1 just came out). Ori mentioned that he was interested in playing Eve online. I have to admit i knew very little about eve, I watched the Zero punctuation video and Yahtzee gave it a good slagging off but thats about all I knew. I was aware that eve had just released a mac client so its one of the few games a I could actually try (It was a bit of a git missing lotr and warhammer online).

So i headed to the eve online website downloaded it and signed up for the 15 day free trial. First thing i have to say is the game is bloody complicated! I decided to create a mining / industrial char. I have never been the type of person to jump in feet first to the pvp i enjoy the supporting roles. I followed the first questline and got confused even more… All i knew was I had just completed a mission and had been given a badger. In my mind this is the best way to get me hooked on a game…

At the moment I am concentrating on the mining, It seems to be going pretty. I am concentrating on the Veldspar mining is some 0.7 areas. I read a mining guid that had a tip on using waypoints to help speed up the process. Basically you warp to a asteroid then travel 10km past them (with the space station behind you). Once you are here set your waypoint. This way when you warp back to the belt warp to the waypoint this way you will warp into the middle of the asteroid’s rather than 10km away.
